Chakma Raja Debashish Roy wedded
After long 12 years since the death of first wife, Chakma Circle Chief Barrister Raja Debashish Roy wedded the second time on Friday.
The bride Yen Yen is a member of the Rakhaine community.
According to sources in the royal family, the wedding ceremony took place in Tridip area of Rangamati town. About 4,000 guests from home and abroad attended the ceremony.
On Friday afternoon the bride’s father Umang Ree, a resident of Maheshkhali, and her mother Dopu Mya Khain, a resident of Bandarban, came to the house of Raja Debashish, accompanied by others. Later at the evening the customary wedding took place in presence of the invited guests.
Though it was the second wedding of the king, it generated a lot of curiosity among the young the generation.
Raja Debashish had an acquaintance with Yen Yen studying at the Adelaide University in Australia. Later they fell in love and then wedded.
After her study at the BUET in Bangladesh, Yen Yen went to the Adelaide University with a scholarship to do her PhD.
The Chakma king’s first wife queen Tatu Roy expired in 1998 leaving a son and a daughter behind.
